Meet the Presiding Bishop

Bishop Robert Dedrick Hood was born in LaGrange, North Carolina on April 3, 1974.  He received his formal education in the Lenoir County School Systems.  Bishop Hood received his spiritual upbringing and passion for the church at large while attending St. James Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, LaGrange, North Carolina.

Understanding the call on his life, he preached his initial sermon on April 2, 2000, and was officially ordained an Elder in the Goldsboro Raleigh District Assembly in October 2003.

While under the mentorship of many great leaders, namely his father, Bishop Ronnie L. Hood, Robert understood the value of leadership and what it meant to Lead God’s people. Following much prayer and supplication he began his pastoral leadership journey as the interim pastor at St. Mark Church in April of 2004 and was duly elected in June of the same year.  Currently, under the leadership of Pastor Hood, St. Mark Church of Christ has flourished financially and most of all spiritually. He has increased membership attendance by over 42% and continues to have the strongest mid-day bible study in Northeast Wayne County.   As a supporting member of our District Church, and by approval of the Presiding Bishop the work of the ministry was needed in the Browntown community of Snow Hill where he began to serve the Oak Grove Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ as Interim Pastor in April of 2008. This ministry is meeting the needs of disciples stretching across four (4) counties.

As a family man he is Married to Elder Tachala Dawson Hood and they enjoy the company of their nine (9) children and five (5) grandchildren.
